Masterplanning is about finding and telling the story of a site, understanding its context and using it to create places. Context isn’t abstract: it encompasses a site’s geography, geology, climate, landscape, culture and history. It’s about layering, complexity, texture and grain. Ultimately, masterplanning and urban design are about people.
We believe there is nothing more important to the health of towns and cities than good urban design supported by vital public space. As such, we adopt a very broad approach to develop imaginative, integrated, and pragmatic strategies for the essential problem of community-building through coherent streetscapes and public realm.
We see local knowledge as a key resource, and our ability to understand, interpret and resolve often conflicting demands is one of our key skills. Whilst broader aims should be identified, it is essential that an urban design project addresses immediate local needs, which in turn will be a catalyst for truly sustainable development.
