The brief to re-model, modernise and extend an existing school to provide generous, state-of-the-art teaching and support spaces for all years from Nursery through to Year 6, came with the extra challenge of undertaking the construction work whilst the existing school was actively operating. The task was met with great poise, minimising disruption and ensuring the safety of children, staff and parents at all times.
The design provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for teaching and learning, with a simple, practical layout. A new pedestrian access, main entrance and canopy improve way-finding, whilst a separate vehicular access has radically improved safety. New single storey classrooms are oriented to maximise natural ventilation and daylight, with large, glazed doors giving access to external planting beds and the playground beyond.
