Situated on the Wenlock Basin and directly adjacent to Regent’s Canal in London, this proposal aims to secure the long term viability of a nineteenth century listed building complex through an extensive refurbishment program and the addition of a new five-storey extension, comprising seven luxury apartments, a new gallery space and a café. A new demountable bridge over the basin will increase local connectivity within a wider area characterised by a vibrant, emerging local arts scene. The new residential building is designed to appear as a distinct element – a bold but elegant contemporary addition – rather than an apologetic infill building that acts as a pastiche of the historic context.
