As a ‘pioneer’ residential development in a fringe location characterised by large, single-use institutional buildings and council depots, this seven storey mixed-use project on the site of a derelict pub demonstrates the value of contemporary design as a catalyst to wider regeneration and investment in the surrounding area.
The building has commercial units on the ground and first floors, fourteen two-bedroom apartments on the upper floors, underground parking (eight spaces) and bicycle storage.
The visual effect is lively and dynamic, with a sense of complexity generated from within an ordered proportional system. The building’s skin, formed from brick, glass, and metal panels, has been composed with great consideration of colour, depth and texture to add interest and diversity to an otherwise uninspiring streetscape.
