This concept design for a responsive masterplan comprising 800 new homes and associated community facilities aims to exploit the opportunities inherent in a unique string of connected sites to address some of the town’s existing transport and housing issues.
The masterplan seeks to strengthen the town’s ill-defined periphery with an urban extension that is consistent with the town’s historic growth pattern, whilst also addressing issues such as acoustics, ecology and visual impact.
The proposal was developed by defining block typologies that respond to the diverse character of the site’s boundaries which include: a busy dual carriageway; Ashlyn’s Hall, an early 19th century, Grade II listed country house and grounds; a low-density string of large, detached 20th century houses, and; open countryside with views to the surrounding Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
